Lightning Rods: Ellips

ELLIPS ESE (Early Streamer Emitter)

ELLIPS lightning rod is inspired by recent advances in understanding of lightning, electromagnetism, high voltage and fluid mechanics effects.

An aluminium alloy and polymeric materials form the major part of the lightning rod. Without any fragile priming system, ELLIPS have been designed to become the most reliable and sustainable product of the market.

ELLIPS Reliability

Years of experiments and numerous tests in laboratory and in real-world lightning conditions were necessary to develop this air terminal.

This unique and patented system is composed without any electronic or mechanical component which would prove too fragile and unreliable.

The simplicity of its design and operation combined with its qualitative manufacture and assembly allows LPS France to provide every ELLIPS lightning rod with 15 year warranty.

Operation

The natural ionization (spark-over) is enhanced by ELLIPS system independently of any energy source.

ELLIPS ESE lightning rods trigger spark-over in advance and become the preferential impact point.

Installation lightning rod Ellips

Thanks to its design and its compact size, Ellips is very convenient to set up and to hold in one hand during installation. A particular attention should be paid to its positioning regarding environment in order to ensure the maximum efficiency of lightning protection.

Radius Protection

Radius Protection:

ELLIPS allows protecting wide areas and ensuring efficiency for large radius protection.

  • Air terminal model = P60 (ΔT = 60μs)
  • Δh =5m ;
  • Level protection IV
  • Radius protection 107 m

  2. IEC 62 305
  3. UNE 21186

Performance

ELLIPS Air Terminal is available with a range of 4 different advance levels (Δt) measured in micro seconds (μs) to ensure more or less wide protection radius (meters) and adapt to the areas to be protected : E10 ; E25 ; E45 & E60.

Nota:

“An ESEAT is characterized by its efficiency ΔT which is proved in the evaluation test (see Annexe C). The maximum value for ΔT, whatever are the test results, is 60 μs.”

Protection Level

A lightning protection study must be carried out in order to define positioning and select the appropriate level of protection.

The protection level selected (From I to IV) must consider the lightning map activity, the nature of the building (Commercial buildings, School, Chemical industry…) and its attendance (Private, public).
